Last year the scheduled concert by Valeriy Sokolov & Friends in our star-studded Alumni Celebrity series ended up as a concert merely by his Friends, since Valeriy himself was unable to secure a visa to leave Ukraine. Fortunately there was no such problem with his rescheduled sell-out recital, the first Celebrity Concert of 2015.
Together with his regular pianist Evgeny Isotov, Valeriy treated the audience to an awe-inspiring programme of Ravel, Bartok, Prokofiev, Bach and Shostakovitch (the 2nd Piano Trio, in which they were joined by another YMS alumnus Pau Codina).
It was a tremendous way to start the New Year and much enjoyed by all.
