We are delighted to announce our first-ever residential Summer School, taking place from 28 July to 2 August 2025. This immersive programme is designed for young musicians aged 11 to 16, offering an unparalleled opportunity to develop their talents whilst enjoying a taste of what it is like to be a full-time pupil at the school.
The course will be led by the teaching staff of YMS, who each bring a wealth of experience and will ensure each student receives comprehensive and inspiring instruction.
Programme Highlights:
- Individual Instrumental Lessons: Participants will receive personalised tuition from the school's esteemed faculty, focusing on technique, interpretation, and performance skills.
- Chamber Music, Orchestra, and Choir: Students will engage in ensemble playing, orchestral projects and choral sessions, fostering collaboration and broadening their musical perspectives.
- Academic Music and Workshops: The course includes classes in general musicianship, aural skills and harmony, alongside seminars on audition preparation, performance anxiety management and overall well-being.
- Performance Opportunities: As well as enjoying performances by visiting artists, participants will showcase their progress in a final ensemble concert at the school's renowned 300-seat Menuhin Hall, featuring solo, orchestral and choral performances.
Eligibility and Application:
The course welcomes young musicians aged 11 to 16 who are either studying composition or who have achieved a minimum standard of Grade 5 (ABRSM or equivalent) on violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp, classical guitar, or piano. Both residential and non-residential places are available.
Applications can be submitted through the school's website here. As part of the application process, candidates are required to provide recordings of two contrasting pieces on their primary instrument. Those studying composition are asked to provide digital recordings and/or the score of two pieces they have composed.
