The guitar was introduced as a first-study instrument in 2004, thanks to a generous charitable donation from the Rolling Stones. Since then, the School has maintained a healthy cohort of guitarists, with many going on to achieve successful careers as performing artists.
Guitarists usually receive three hours of instrumental tuition each week, plus additional class time. As well as playing in guitar ensembles, pupils are also given regular opportunities to work in chamber settings alongside bowed-string players, ensuring they develop a sound understanding of how to produce a singing, legato line.
The School owns a 64cm scale concert guitar by Rohan Lowe for the use of younger pupils who are not yet ready for a full-size instrument.
