The piano is the second most represented first-study instrument at YMS (after the violin). Great focus is placed upon integrating our cohort of first-study pianists into the wider musical activities of the School, and pupils are heavily involved in chamber music and other collaborative performance, including the accompaniment of their string-playing peers during the annual Summer Festival.

Pianists generally receive two hours of tuition with their teacher each week, plus additional class time and support from an assistant where required. Dedicated practice supervision is also provided.

In addition, pianists are able to take lessons on a supporting study, including harpsichord and jazz piano.
