Violinists, violists and cellists are involved in a wide range of practical music-making activities, including orchestra, chamber music, improvisation, outreach projects and group sessions.
All first-study violinists will be expected to learn and play viola at some point during their studies – usually in a chamber music and/or orchestral setting – whilst some of our first-study violists also play the violin.
Most pupils will receive a minimum of two hours' tuition with their teacher each week, and some will have additional lessons with an assistant. Class lessons are a regular feature of the School’s timetable, and the pupils are also given support from a dedicated practice supervisor.
The School is home to a small collection of instruments which are available for use on those occasions when pupils are unable to provide their own.
